PREVIOUS EVENTS – 2015
Wednesday 16th December
We reconciled (local joke!) some of the members with some past owners, and had 11 Cobra’s dodging raindrops on the way to Riebeeck Kasteel where we had breakfast at Kasteelberg Bistro. As usual, it is always awesome to get out into the countryside on some of our quieter roads, although we were all very disciplined today! The sun then came out and we had a dry drive home.
Saturday 4th December
The inaugural Beers & Gears show at Willowbridge Shopping Centre was quite festive albeit fairly poorly supported by cars and spectators. Super hot weather made the many craft beers on offer taste great. 13 Cobra’s were there along with a good turnout of Lotus 7’s and Subaru’s, but very little else.
Sunday 29th November
An impromptu arrangement to visit the Harvest market at Lourensford Estate in Somerset West turned out to be a great outing for 4 Cobras today. It was super hot, but the relaxed atmosphere and company made it a very pleasant day out. Pity there were only 4 cars there.
Thursday 8th October
Ysterplaat Aviators Evening – Weather played along nicely this afternoon enabling 5 Cobras to attend this show at Ysterplaat Air Force Base. There were about 35 cars on display amongst planes from the Air Force museum, and lots of other hangers with planes and helicopters. There was an air display by the Silver Falcons, followed by the Bloodhound team who did a presentation on their land speed project due at Haksteenpan in October 2016. Maybe some Cob’s need to do a dice! (Thanks Tarren for the picture – informal spontaneous lineup!)
Saturday 3rd October
Whales and Wheels car show in Hermanus – Unfortunately Weather SA’s forecasts showing “no rain”, were not correct and Saturday started off with enough rain to scare off 9 of the 14 people planning to attend the annual Whales & Wheels festival. Fortunately for the 5 that did make it through in the cars, the sun stayed out all day. (Picture courtesy of Soon Nel)
Saturday 4th July
16 Cobras attended the Independence Day event at Killarney Race Track. Great weather made the day, which included some slow parade laps behind some very slow Harley’s, a pleasant winter day outing.
Saturday 9th May
Knysna Motor Show – Another great showing of over 300 spectacular cars mostly from the Garden Route area. There were 7 Cobra’s on show, most from surrounding areas. The weather, although threatening to rain at times, held off and the public flocked to the school grounds.
14 & 15 Feb
George Old Car Show – very few Cape Town cars ventured beyond the mountain, but fortunately some local Cobra’s joined up to form a decent sized group. Weather was not great for open cars, but the show still attracted quite a few spectators and exhibitors.
Sunday 1st Feb
Chaeli Campaign Peninsular Tour – We spent the day driving the family who had won the auction of a tour around the peninsular and lunch at the Victoria Junction Protea Hotel. Weather was superb and everyone enjoyed the day. Chaeli and her mom were there to see us off.
Saturday 17th Jan
Timour Hall – 11 Cobras made it to this show on the Saturday (Modern Classics). Weather was superb, and there seemed to be many more spectators than last year, making the time pass quite quickly.
